Remodel Reveal: Wayzata Modern Kitchen | EH Design

The time has come...we get to finally reveal our Wayzata Modern Kitchen Remodel.  This beautiful home was originally built in 1993 by Streeter Homes and needed just a bit of an update so we started in the kitchen.  Streeter's remodeling division came back in to do the construction of the kitchen this time around as well with the layout and design by yours truly, EH Design.

The full reveal is below along with the"Before" pictures, so you can see just how amazing this transformation is!

The After

Layout

We gutted the entire kitchen but kept the general layout.  The placement of all of the appliances and sink made sense so we kept the placement of each of these.  To open up the kitchen and make better use of how large the space was, we ran a 9' island horizontally across the cooktop space instead of just the small corner island by the sink.  Originally there was a large pantry type space where the new desk top now resides.

The seamless corner window is to die for!  Originally the cabinetry hung slightly over each side of the window, blocking some of the view and the amazing window.  We made sure to pull these back to get the full effect of how wonderful this corner is.

Countertops

The show stopper in this kitchen is undoubtedly the island countertop!  This gorgeous Lincoln Gold Honed slab was the inspiration for the look and feel for the entire kitchen.  It was hand picked by the home owner and was a must in the space.  We then matched a beautiful Glacier White Corian countertop for the remainder of the surfaces in the space, allowing the island to stand out.  We had Corian integrate the kitchen sink into the countertops for a seamless and ultra custom look.  To top it all off we created a reveal under the corian countertop, creating a shadow effect for an extra little touch.

Cabinetry

The fully custom cabinetry was built by Northland Woodworks and includes details both outside of the cabinetry as well as the inside to maximize storage.  We used a matte white material for the cabinets surrounding the perimeter of the kitchen, including the uppers and desk space with a fully seamless flat panel front for a beautiful modern appeal and the fridge, freezer and dishwasher are cabinet faced for an ultimate custom design.  For the island we chose the same matte material in a sleek black to break up all of the white.

The home owner wanted efficient storage within the cabinetry including spaces such as - an appliance garage that houses a blender and toaster, a fry pan pull out, a spice rack pull out, compost drawers, deep drawers underneath the cooktop for pots and lids and over at the desk you will find a printer and paper drawer, among so much more.  We chose a chrome finish on the hardware so that it would almost disappear.  On all of the cabinet doors we used the adorable chrome finger pulls and on all of the drawers we used modern chrome pulls.  It adds the perfect touch without taking away from the beautiful cabinetry.

Backsplash

Talk about drama!  It's hard to choose our favorite aspect of this kitchen, but this backsplash really adds that amazing drama to the space, that's for sure! We chose a 3x14 textured matte black subway tile.  To bring a classic touch to the space, we ran the tile in a classic offset pattern and used a light grey grout to really highlight the pattern and texture of these tiles.
