Pondsview Cottage | An EH Design “Design Story”
Some pieces don’t just complete a space — they connect it to the past. At Pondsview Cottage, that connection came in the form of two antique cane-back chairs discovered tucked away at a local vintage store. Worn but well cared for, they looked as if they’d spent a lifetime in someone’s sun-drenched sitting room, absorbing stories and warmth.
We knew right away — they were meant for this home.

The Find: Timeworn, Timeless Chairs
The antique cane-back chairs were a rare gem — their wooden frames and woven cane were in pristine condition, lovingly preserved through time. What they needed wasn’t restoration, but reimagination.
We updated the seat and interior back with a textile that felt both tactile and nostalgic: a stitched blush fabric reminiscent of a horse blanket. It was a subtle nod to the homeowner’s love of animals and her desire for texture with soul.
In a home grounded in story and intention, these chairs didn’t just fill a space — they anchored it.
The Fabric: A Nod to the Familiar
Selecting the fabric for these chairs wasn’t a straightforward decision. We thought we had landed on the right textile—until, in a quiet moment at the showroom, we paused, sat down, and kept flipping. Then we saw it: a stitched blush fabric with subtle linear movement and a soft hand. Unexpected. Understated. Perfect.
It felt familiar in the best way — like a detail you’d forgotten you loved. The tone was warm and grounded, the texture inviting but elevated. On chairs that traditionally lean formal, the textile brought a relaxed authenticity — a gentle tension between refinement and soul.
These weren’t just reupholstered antiques. They became anchors in a home designed to feel lived-in, loved, and layered with meaning.

The Placement: A Moment of Pause
They now rest in the corner of the homeowner’s private suite — the kind of place where clothes are casually draped over the back after a long day, where she pauses to catch the sunset or flips through a favorite book with the windows cracked just enough to let in the breeze. A small table between them sets the stage for slow mornings, soft light, and a quiet connection to the pond just beyond.
There’s something poetic about taking something old and giving it new purpose. In a home defined by thoughtful restraint and layered intention, these chairs represent exactly what Pondsview is all about:
Slowing down. Remembering what matters. Making space for the meaningful.
