Charcoal and Gold Interior Transformation | EH Design

Timeless Elegance

This family of 5 had set down roots in a home in a wonderful neighborhood in Minnesota.  All they needed now furniture and finishes to fill and complete the home to make their house feel like a home!

This was a relatively new home with this family being the second owners to live there.  The house was done beautifully but the design and colors were not entirely to the liking of the family.  The family hired EH Design to complete the main level of their home where they spend most of their time.  Here are a few shots of the home prior to design.

The home was painted all the same color.

The furniture they had did not fit in the home they moved into.

There was nothing on the walls.

There wasn’t enough furniture to fit in the home.

We began this project with an overall color scheme we wanted to achieve throughout the main level. The color pallet consists of tone on tone neutrals of greys, creams and taupe’s. Charcoal grounds the space and accents of gold complement the overall pallet.  It’s a very elegant color scheme as well a very masculine which suits all family members.

This was largly my inspiration for the overall design.

Starting with the entry, we didn’t want to distract you away from the beautiful stairway when entering into the home so we kept this space simple but functional.  We added a simple runner, a boot tray, a bench, a shelf and hooks.  This makes for a nice functional entry for guests.

Straight ahead when entering into the home, you are welcomed by this beautiful charcoal wall, BM Chelsea Grey, with wonderful gold accents and beautiful pictures of the family.

Right off of the entry there is a wonderful sitting room.  Many times a sitting room will feel like a waste of space because it isn’t used properly.  What makes this room feel different is that we transformed the formal dining room into a pub which we will get to in a minute.  This sitting room will serve as an extension of the pub entertaining space and provide a wonderful place for guests to relax and enjoy their beverages.  This room was kept light in overall color scheme since it is meant to be a bit more formal than the rest of the rooms on that level.  In this room the coffee table and end table are custom built pieces.  We also added a bar cart for the other end table which can be wheeled between rooms for serving.

One of my favorite rooms – the formal dining room turned into a pub!  This family often entertains but because their eat-in dining and kitchen are so large, they felt yet another dining space was not needed so we decided on a pub space.  This entire room has elements that were custom built.

They custom built the hightop table and stools, as well as this amazing bar and shelving!

Moving to the eat-in dining space which sits off of the kitchen in a very well-lit sun room, we painted this room Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray to warm it up a bit.  We added beautiful window treatments to the space which warm it up as well.

Last but not least to mention in the eat-in dining space – sitting on this beautiful natural charcoal jute rug is this amazingly beautiful and custom built table and benches!  This beautiful 110” table is made from Douglas Fur and  adorned with iron details. Opposite the benches, we added six beautifully refinished vintage chairs in a very light great to balance the dark table.

In the family room we chose a beautiful charcoal sectional sofa for this space.  This sofa was like a well tailored suit yet comfortable for a movie night!  We added a streamlined ottoman to the space so the family can kick up their feet!
