The Vision Behind Pondsview Cottage | Rooted in Soul, Refined in Scale

Some homes aren’t built from scratch — they’re rewritten from the heart.
That was the story of Pondsview Cottage, a project that challenged us to think smaller, dig deeper, and design more intentionally. Tucked beside a quiet pond in Wayzata, Minnesota, the original structure was a modest cottage with undeniable charm. But its layout no longer fit the life of the woman who called it home — a remarkable small business owner, community leader, and veterinarian who needed space that supported her daily rhythms without compromising what made the home feel special in the first place.
When she approached EH Design, her wish was simple.
She wasn’t interested in building big. She wanted a space that was just enough: functional, beautiful, and emotionally grounding. A home that felt like it had always belonged on the land — not one that tried to dominate it.
The Power of Intention

From the beginning, our client had a beautifully clear vision: she wanted a home that felt personal, purposeful, and deeply rooted in her lifestyle. She wasn’t interested in building more for the sake of more — she wanted every square foot to matter.
As with many projects, the design process naturally explored various possibilities, including expanded layouts and new features. But through open collaboration and thoughtful conversation, we returned to what resonated most: creating a home that reflected not just where she lived, but how she wanted to live.
“I chose EH Design because you saw what I wanted before I even said it. I trust that you’ll design the home I need — not the one others expect me to build.”
That clarity empowered us to refine the design in all the right ways. The result isn’t about size — it’s about intention. Every choice was made to serve a life well-lived, in a home that feels like it has always belonged.

Design with Depth
By intentionally reducing the footprint, we gained something far more valuable: a home filled with soul. Every inch of the final design was curated to reflect her lifestyle, her values, and the quiet elegance she embodies.
Natural light was maximized in every room. Cabinetry was customized to feel collected and purposeful. A soft palette of earthy whites, blush textiles, and warm wood created the perfect canvas for everyday life.
We even sourced a pair of antique cane-back chairs from a local shop — lovingly reupholstered in a blush-toned stitched fabric reminiscent of a vintage horse blanket. They now reside in her primary suite — a gentle reminder that design is as much about feeling as it is about form.

A Cottage That Belongs
Pondsview Cottage doesn’t shout. It whispers.
It tells the story of a homeowner who knew who she was — and of a design studio trusted to bring that story to life. It’s a space that feels like it has always been here. And now, it finally lives up to that feeling.
