Home for the Holidays Christmas Decor Tour | EH Design

Happy Holidays from our house to yours!  Is it just us or do the holidays seam to come a bit earlier each year?  We don't mind that at all!  It just means we get to enjoy holiday home decor and the holiday spirit that much longer!

We  absolutely LOVE the holiday season and for good reason - it's decor galore.  We have decorated every inch of Erin Haugerud's home for the holidays and would like to invite you to join us for a complete Home for the Holidays tour where you'll find wonderful design inspiration.

In addition to our own Home for the Holidays Tour, we've teamed up with other amazing designers to provide you with the ultimate Holiday Home Tour.  You'll be able to peruse all of these wonderful blogs to gain the best inspiration out there! Check out the links at the end of this tour.

We hope you have the happiest of holidays this year!  Cheers to you and your families!

Trimming the Tree with Christmas Stuff

The tree is obviously the star of the show in any holiday decor and for us, it's also the most fun!  Since having our first born baby girl, we started the tradition of heading out the day after Thanksgiving to pick out our own tree, cut it down and haul it home to decorate for Christmas.  We love creating these amazing memories for the kids that they will be able to share with their babies!

Having a real tree comes with a few challenges but there's nothing like the real deal.  We have to be careful of the ornaments that we put on it because they can't be too heavy or they will weigh the branches down. One of my favorite things about living in Minnesota, is when the trees are full of snow after a heavy snowfall. It's absolutely beautiful.  We love to replicate this look on our Christmas Tree!

Stockings Were Hung by the Chimney with Care

The mantel is the focal point in the Haugerud family room, and for most family rooms.  Not only because of how beautiful it is but also because we live in MN and boy do we need it in the winter.  This year, because we just added to the fireplace by adding the shiplap, we wanted to really highlight the mantel.  We used a simple color palette of deep greens that contrast against the creamy white and highlighted with brass accents.  We added a bit more sparkle to the mantel by adding these adorable Sugar Paper sting lights.

Down the Stairs the Children Run

I have always LOVED our banister and even before the house was finished I imagined our kids running down those stairs Christmas morning with that twinkle in there eye as they spotted the Christmas tree on Christmas morning.

This is the first year we have decorated the banisters because we were too worried my kids would have the garland down in no time.  When I found this garland in the Hearth and Hand Collection at Target, this was the perfect solution because it was the perfect length so our kids wouldn't yank them down.  We tied the garland on the banister with the beautiful black and white ribbon along with the deep green felt and topped it off with super cute ornaments!

Not a Creature Was Stirring

I found this amazing hutch that sits in our eat-in dining room that stands super tall and holds all of my white serving pieces.  I love to decorate this because it's at such a wonderful height where it's out of reach of the little kiddos fingers which means I get to put a ton of breakables on it.

I like to change up the chalkboard for different occasions and this year chose to replicate the bottle brush trees we placed throughout the space.

All is Calm. All is Bright

This is where we unwind every night when the dust settles.  This is "my spot" in particular and I love it because it's the best seat in the house to view the tree!  We went with a super neutral palette with the pillows on the sofa this year to carry over the cream in the fireplace. It all reminds me of snow!

Every year we change out the picture of the kids with Santa and place it in a spot where the kids can see it.  They love seeing themselves with Santa from the year before.

When They Pass Around the Coffee and the Pumpkin Pie

Oh the dining room!  I absolutely love the dining room.  It's right off of the entry so I love to decorate it so guests feel welcomed and feel the Christmas in the air when they walk in.  I love to decorate the table because there are so many ways to do it.

When setting the table, I like to add something to each place setting that has purpose.  When hosting a gathering during the holidays I think it's a fun to add a little something extra for your guests like these ornaments that they can take home as gifts.  You could customize this piece to fit the particular party and guests.

Faithful Friends Who are Dear to Us Gather Near to Us

This entry table has been one of my favorite places to decorate each season.  I found this table for $100 at a local Junk Bonanza and love it as mush today as I did when I first saw it.  Probably one of my best finds.

I love to add holiday decor to this table because it's the first thing guests see when they walk in the door.  I keep some elements the same throughout the year and switch out others.

Nestled All Snug in Their Beds

Last, but certainly not least, the place where we rest our heads.  I typically don't over do it in the master because let's face it, our eyes aren't open that long when we are in there BUT adding in a few holiday touches awakens the senses each morning and reminds you that it's the holiday season.

Adding in fur pillows warms up the space and then just a few little pieces on each side of the bed does the trick.  On my side I added a pine cone and some greens on top of a birch disk.  Super simple yet elegant.

On his side I placed this great masculine image of a reindeer and this wonderful vintage concrete vehicle carrying the tree. Both of which I picked up from Carver Junk Company.

If you have those out of town guests coming in, don't forget about them.  Switch out the lighter sheets for flannel and add some of these small touches to their space and they will feel super welcomed.
