The time has come my friends! We are about to reveal to you our Lakeville Great Room Remodel Project. This project was so fantastic from start to finish and our vision was clear from the moment we walked into the house. EH Design through CJC Interiors, flipped the spaces to bring purpose and meaning to each space.
Let us set the stage for you for a moment if you will. Scene takes place in Minnesota where summers are highly cherished and lake shore property is sawt after. Our clients quickly snagged up their slice of one of the 10,000 lakes Minnesota houses. Was the house perfect, no. But the land was. Enter EH Design. We were hired to make sense of an addition that was added on to the home at some point and create a space that maximized their wonderful lake views.
So that’s just what we did! Check out our reveal below as we take you through the details of the project! Ohhhh, AND you can even shop the post below, grabbing those fantastic items you see within the design 😉
Great Room Before
During a previous renovation with a previous owner, this room was added onto the home as a four season porch and dining room space. The two rooms could be closed off from each other by large sliding glass doors. That may have made sense in the past but now the space had so much potential!
When walking into this room, we instantly had a vision of the potential of this space. When removing the doors between the spaces, we knew it still needed to be divided into 2 areas but not by sliding glass doors, rather just by the furniture. We divided the spaces into what we called the media space and the lakeside space. But what connects both space is the beautiful built-in we designed across the entire room.

As you can see here we created the Media built-in to house the TV and storage and then dropped the built-in down under the window for a cozy reading bench. We finished off the built-in with a coordinating shelf, creating a cohesive space that ties it all together.
Another element that ties the 2 spaces together are the area rugs. These beautiful Serena and Lily area rugs are to die for and even better in person. The stitching is raised, giving the area rugs an amazing texture under foot.
What makes up a cozy media space? As much opportunity to kick up your feet to watch TV right?! Oh and cozy recliners, of course! We are all about creating the coziest spaces for our clients and part of that is to imagine them kicking their feet up. Each spot has ample opportunities to do so. To balance the room out with the windows to the lake on the opposite wall, we created this straight-lined gallery wall using these fantastic over-sized frames to do so from Pottery Barn. Add in family photos and viola!
Who wouldn’t want to watch TV in this space?! I would probably never leave!

Check out that view!
When designing this area of the room, the main objective was to maximize the space. The best way to do that was with these amazing leather swivel chairs from Pottery Barn . The swivel chair allows the client to turn and view the lake from all angles, swivel back for a conversation or view the TV. Oh and of course we added a fantastic round ottoman in the center for kicking up your feet.
As you can see here, the swivel chairs allows the clients to swivel over to the media space as well, maximizing the use of the entire room. Not only is the space perfect for relaxing, it’s also perfect for entertaining in any capacity.

We knew we wanted to do a built-in in the room and had this window to work with. We were so excited that the window was there so we could add this fantastic window seat which was the perfect spot to read a book at take in the exceptional lake views.

Another full view of the space with spectacular views of the lake! So then where did the dining room go then you ask? We’ll show you! See below!
Dining Room Before
As you can see we pulled the dining room out of that room and into the room off of the kitchen. What was a media built-in in that space is now a built-in hutch by adding in shelving and doors.
Here’s a closer look at the 2 rooms together as well as the hutch. When we walked in this home for the first time, we knew it made perfect sense for the dining room to be pulled out of that space and to be right off the kitchen.
Are you seeing these lake views?! Not only do they have spectacular views in the great room, they also have them here in the dining room!
I imagine dinner parties in this space with a roaring fire that ends with cocktails in the great room space. That’s one of the many scenarios I imagine in the space.
We added a chandelier to the space to define the dining room and made sure it wasn’t too obtrusive to take away from the lake views. We used their existing table and chairs and added a PB Comfort Dining Chair to each end. Even with the dining table, there was still space for a cozy seating area as well for morning coffee!
Lake views and fantastic natural light from the skylight make for the perfect space!
